Every piece of glass art on the Cottonmouth retail floor was made by an artist working at a torch inside this building. Not imported. Not mass-produced. Not bought wholesale from a catalog. Each piece was heated, shaped, colored, assembled, and annealed right here in the Cottonmouth glass art studio in Runnemede, New Jersey.
This matters because it means the quality is consistent, the provenance is clear, and the artist who made the piece you're holding may be sitting twenty feet away at the torch when you buy it. You can ask them about it. You can watch the next one being made. You can commission something specific to your taste.

Functional Glass
Functional glass is art that you use. Every piece is made from borosilicate glass, properly annealed in our production kiln, and built to withstand the thermal demands of regular use. Our functional glass categories include:
Pipes and Spoons
The most classic form of functional glass. Spoon pipes are compact, portable, and endlessly customizable. Our artists produce spoons in a range of styles, from clean and minimal to heavily worked with color, fuming, and sculptural accents. Spoons are the most affordable entry point into studio-made glass.
Dab Rigs
Purpose-built for concentrates, dab rigs feature smaller chambers, specific joint sizes for quartz bangers, and designs optimized for low-temperature vaporization. Our rigs range from simple and functional to elaborate pieces with recycler functions, inline percolation, and custom color schemes.
Bubblers
Bubblers combine the portability of a pipe with the water filtration of a larger piece. They sit comfortably in one hand, filter smoke through water for a cooler hit, and don't require separate components. Our bubblers are popular with people who want filtration without the size and setup of a full rig.
Recyclers
Recyclers are a specific type of water pipe designed for concentrate use. Water and vapor travel through a continuous loop, cycling through the chamber multiple times before reaching the mouthpiece. This provides maximum filtration and cooling in a compact form. Recyclers are among the most technically demanding pieces to make, requiring precise measurements and airtight seals at every junction.
Pendants
Wearable glass art. Pendants are small, individually crafted pieces designed to be worn on a chain or cord. They showcase the same techniques used in larger work (fuming, color application, sculpting) in a miniature format. Pendants make excellent gifts and are one of the most collectible categories in glass art.
Sculptural Glass
Not everything we make is meant to be used. Some pieces are meant to be looked at, held, appreciated, and displayed. Our sculptural glass includes:
Marbles
Flameworked marbles are miniature worlds encased in clear glass. Artists use techniques like implosion (pulling design elements inward), dichroic glass insertion, color layering, and fuming to create depth and complexity in a sphere that fits in your palm. Collecting handmade marbles is one of the most accessible entry points into glass art, with pieces ranging from affordable to museum-quality.
Abstract Sculptures
Freestanding sculptural works that push the boundaries of what flameworked glass can do. These pieces are made for display and often incorporate techniques that would be impractical in functional work: extreme color combinations, fragile extensions, organic forms, and mixed-media elements.
Display Pieces
Display pieces blur the line between functional and sculptural. They may technically function as pipes or rigs, but their complexity, size, and level of detail make them collector's items intended primarily for display. These are the pieces that end up in cases, on shelves, and in private collections.

We also produce a range of accessories that complement your existing glass setup:
- Carb caps: Directional and bubble caps for controlling airflow during low-temperature dabs. Custom styles available.
- Dab tools: Glass tools for handling concentrates. Functional and decorative options.
- Adapters: Joint adapters for converting between sizes (10mm, 14mm, 18mm) or genders (male to female, female to male).
- Downstems: Custom-length downstems with various diffusion styles.
- Slides and bowls: Replacement bowls for water pipes, available in standard and worked styles.
Custom Commissions
If you can describe it, our artists can probably make it. Custom commissions are one of the most rewarding parts of what we do, because they result in pieces that exist nowhere else in the world. Here's how the process works:
Consultation
Visit the shop or call to discuss what you're looking for. Bring reference images, describe the style, colors, size, and function you want. The more detail you provide, the closer the finished piece will be to your vision.
Design
The artist reviews your specifications and provides feedback on feasibility, material options, and pricing. Some commissions are straightforward; others require creative problem-solving to achieve the desired result in glass.
Production
Standard commissions take 1 to 2 weeks from approval to completion. Complex or large-scale pieces may take longer. The artist works on your piece during their regular studio hours, and the piece is annealed in the kiln before final inspection.
Pickup
Once complete, we'll contact you for pickup. You can inspect the piece in person, ask questions about care and maintenance, and take it home the same day.
Pricing scales with complexity. A simple single-color spoon costs less than a multi-section recycler with custom color work and sculptural accents. During your consultation, the artist will give you a clear price range before any work begins. There are no surprises.
Care and Maintenance
Your glass will last decades with proper care. Here's how to keep it in top condition:
- Cleaning: Use isopropyl alcohol (91% or higher) and coarse salt as an abrasive. Pour both into the piece, cover the openings, and shake vigorously. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. For stubborn buildup, soak overnight in isopropyl. Avoid chemical glass cleaners unless they are specifically designed for borosilicate.
- Storage: Store pieces upright on a flat, padded surface. Avoid stacking pieces or placing them where they can roll or fall. Borosilicate is strong but not indestructible. A padded case or shelf liner goes a long way.
- Temperature care: Borosilicate handles thermal shock well, but extreme temperature swings (ice water into a piece that was just used with a torch) can still cause stress fractures. Let pieces return to room temperature naturally between uses.
- Display tips for fumed pieces: Fumed glass changes color over time with use. If you have a fumed piece you want to display, keep it clean to preserve the original color, or let the color change develop naturally. Some collectors prefer the "worked in" look; others clean regularly to maintain the original palette. UV light can affect fumed colors over time, so avoid prolonged direct sunlight for display pieces.
